Bogorodsky Toy - Pecking Hens, Five Lime Green Hens & Berries
Five bright lime-green hens peck their way round a green yard. Each one is dotted with coral-red berries, little white blossoms and black curls. Hold the paddle by its handle and swing it gently in a circle. The wooden weight sways underneath, the strings pull, and all five hens peck at the grain in turn.
This one is green from top to bottom. The hens and board are painted the same zingy lime, scattered with coral berries, yellow flowers and curling black tendrils, and edged with a ring of fine white scrolls. Everything is painted by hand on carved limewood.
Pecking hens come from the Bogorodskoye toy-carving tradition near Moscow, made for well over a century. It’s a fun, fresh gift for a child, and a lovely Easter or spring present.
