Bogorodsky Toy - Pecking Hens, Five Yellow Hens, Strawberries & Cornflowers
Five golden-yellow hens with red tails gather round a heap of grain. Each one is painted with ripe strawberries and green leaves. Hold the paddle by its handle and swing it gently in a circle. The wooden ball sways underneath, the strings pull, and all five hens peck at the grain in turn.
This flock lives in a sunny summer meadow. The bright yellow board is covered with white-speckled strawberries and little blue cornflowers, and it’s framed by a red rim with white scrolls and cross-hatching. Everything is painted by hand on carved limewood.
Pecking hens come from the Bogorodskoye toy-carving tradition near Moscow, made for well over a century. It’s a joyful gift for a child, and a cheerful splash of colour for any shelf. Unlike photo this does have a handle :)
