A dramatic, richly detailed spider brooch, far more sculptural and substantial than a typical wirework design. The body is built up in overlapping, textured silver plates running down the abdomen, finished with a cluster of sharp, curling mandible-like details at the front. Eight thick, deeply articulated legs — each with a naturalistic bend and taper, right down to sharply pointed clawed tips — spread out in a lifelike, almost tarantula-like stance, giving the piece real weight and three-dimensional presence.

Set at the top of the body is a large, high-domed cabochon of natural amber in a deep, glowing cognac-red, its surface rich with swirling internal texture and warm reflective depth. The dark, oxidised tone of the silverwork throughout sets off the glowing amber beautifully, giving the whole piece a bold, almost gothic character.

Baltic amber is one of the world's most prized organic gemstones, formed from ancient tree resin approximately 44 million years ago along the shores of the Baltic Sea, and here it takes centre stage atop an exceptionally detailed piece of silver sculpture. This is a substantial, conversation-starting brooch, with genuine heft and dimension rather than a flat wirework silhouette.

Weight: 72.8g. Dimensions: 100 x 72 x 50mm.

A bold and characterful piece of natural history, for the collector who wants a true statement design.
